Prayer for Patience

Dear Lord,

I come to you needing more patience. The world we live in today is all about instant gratification. I’ve become increasingly impatient and know this leads to frustration and anger. Your plan takes time and I want the patience to wait on You and Your will. 

It’s when I try to do things on my own, and in my own timing, that it leads to chaos and destruction. But, if I wait on You, then You are with me every step of the way, and the things You have promised for my life come to pass. 

Romans says, “But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently“. I want to wait patiently and confidently, not being impatient and fearful that if I don’t do something that what You have promised will not come to pass. Everything is in your timing, and I come in Your name today to surrender my will to You because I trust You fully and the plans You have for my life.

You tell us again, and again, all throughout Your Word for us to be patient. In Psalms, it says, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord“. Usually, when He tells us something more than once, that’s to emphasize it, as it’s something He knew we would struggle with. 

We think we have power when we try to do things on our own, but we don’t. Proverbs says, “Better to be patient than powerful; better to have self-control than to conquer a city“. Give me self-control and patience today so that I may have peace within my troubled soul. 

Allow me to look past those who seem to profit the world, but all the while are losing their soul. Help me be still in Your presence and wait patiently for you to move. I love you Lord and I surrender to You. What You have planned for my life will come in Your timing. Full control belongs to You only.

From today forward I will accept things that are out of my control. I will pause and pray. Instead of being impatient, I will stop and reflect on Your word, because Your Word tells me:

I am chosen.

I am loved.

I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I am dead to myself and alive to the power of God. 

Because you sit on the throne now and forever, I surrender my impatience and control to You.

Though times will pass where I will still be impatient, I will not allow myself to be consumed by it any longer.
