Daily Prayer for Greed
Dear Lord,
I come to you today seeking strength to overcome any greed within my heart. In one dictionary greed is defined as an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food. This world overflows with those whose hearts are filled with greed and will sacrifice anything to satisfy the greed within them. I ask for revelation for any greed within my heart and soul to be removed and filled with the desire for the things you desire.
In Proverbs, it says ‘it’s better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasure and inner turmoil‘. Lord, help me be okay with having little, as long as I have a reverent fear in you. I have seen time and time again where those who have so much but are filled with inner turmoil. I see people who seemed to have it all with many riches but end up down a path of death and destruction because no treasures can calm the inner turmoil; only You can.
Further in Proverbs it says, ‘greed brings grief to the whole family, but those who hate bribes will live‘. Those with greed will often open themselves up to evil things to satiate their greed like taking bribes. We see here about what greed does to the family. I wish to be free of greed in your name and be fulfilled with what I have.
Fill my heart with hunger for you and not for the things of this world. For no wealth or power in this world will fulfill my soul. 1 John says, ‘Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.’
I have the love of You in me, I do not wish to have love for the things of the world, but the enemy tries to attack my mind and spirit to fill me with greed, jealousy, and envy. I recognize these thoughts and feelings are not of you and I ask for them to be cast down in the name of Jesus. Free me from any greed that fills my mind or heart. I long to only desire that which you desire. Lord, help me to keep my mind on things above, because everything here is temporary.
I will go forward being satisfied with what I have, never allowing greed to set up within me because you are all I need when you say:
I am Loved.
I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
I am chosen.
I am dead to myself and alive to the power of God.
Because you sit on the throne now and forever, I will live each day filled with Your desire and not the desires of the world.
In your name I pray,

You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need, and plenty left over to share with others.
As the Scriptures say,
“They share freely and give generously to the poor.
Their good deeds will be remembered forever.”For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.
Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.
