7 Easy Ways to Grow Your Relationship with God as a Couple:
Couples Devotionals (Of course!)
Bible Study
Read Out Loud
Prayer Journal
Christian Movie Date Night
Pray
Verse of the Day
1. Couples Devotionals
One cannot expect to have an impactful marriage outside of God. Reading a couples devotional and working towards a similar goal already draws you closer to each other. If you are both drawing near to God you will naturally draw near to each other in pursuit of your common goal. Take notes and discuss points in the devotionals of how it spoke to each of you and key takeaways that you like about each one. Make it fun!
2. Bible Study
Study the Bible together! Even if it is only a few verses. You will be surprised at how much context can be found in a few verses. Be sure to give each other equal time during these activities. One may lead more than the other on certain days as we all have our spiritually strong, or spiritually weak days. That’s okay, just make sure that you do all of this together and that it’s bringing your relationship life! Try to keep each other equally involved so it is fun for both of you.
3. Read Out Loud
Choose a book of the Bible and start! Maybe you want to start at the beginning. It doesn’t matter where you start, as long as you do. We should be getting into the Word daily. To keep it entertaining, maybe each of you read a chapter, or 5 verses each, and keep this rotation going. This ensures you are both tuned in and following along in your own Bible, and keeps both of you actively involved.
4. Prayer Journal
Work on your Prayer Journals together! You do not have to talk all the time to spend quality time together. Sometimes it can be just as invigorating to sit in silence together on a riverbank working on your prayer journals and faith, as it can be having an intriguing conversation together while out and about. Review things you want to share and what it invokes from each of you with each other. If you need a new prayer journal, look here! It’s Amazon’s Top 10 Prayer Journals. I personally love number 4!
5. Christian Movie Date Night
Who doesn’t love a good date night? What better way to help grow in your relationship, and your faith, than to watch a Christian movie together? They may be harder to find than your everyday Hollywood movie, but they are out there! Grab the popcorn, kick back, and watch a good spiritual movie. There are also great Christian shows that break down the books of the Bible and many more! If you look you can find clean and entertaining content to enjoy together.
6. Pray
Ever hear the saying, “The couple that prays together stays together?” Pray together! There is something so powerful about a man fulfilling his obligation of being the head of the household by leading the family to God. One of my favorite things about my husband is when he takes my hand and prays aloud for us. Maybe neither of you are to that point in your relationship yet, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start! Your marriage will blossom from it later, trust me!
7. Verse of the Day
Make it a habit to send each other the verse of the day and reflect on it! Many free Bible apps provide you with a verse of the day, or you can check out our Tiktok or Instagram for some to get you started. Send each other the verse and discuss what it meant to you. Such as, if it made you feel at peace, or maybe it triggered you to read more on what the Bible says about a particular topic.
Grow Your Relationship
The theme of all of this is growing your relationship with God. We all need to do better, at not only strengthening our relationships by the world’s standards, but growing our relationships spiritually. Without God we have nothing! Therefore, we need to spend time learning and applying the word to our lives in all areas.
A God-Centered Relationship
It is one thing to read the word, and an entirely different animal to apply it to your life. It’s not easy. We always face temptation in one form or another, but if your relationship is centered on God, then you have a bigger opportunity of overcoming it.
Godly Couple
We put out what we put in. If we aren’t putting God’s standard and word into our hearts and minds, we aren’t going to be producing that fruit in our lives. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish as a Godly couple facing obstacles together when you both are spiritually armed.
Make Time
Make time for each other. This world has many distractions and it’s easy to let your marriage fall to the wayside and be taken for granted. When in reality, God blessed you with your spouse and we are called to honor them and our marriage is the last thing we need to take for granted.
Marriage Takes Work
At the end of the day, it is all about getting your relationship centered on God. Everyone may have different ways of doing it, but all that matters is that you are working on it! Marriage takes work from both parties. One thing makes all these things I mentioned work and that’s both parties trying.
Pray
Take time to pray for, and with each other, aloud if you are able. If not, text each other a prayer. Make it a cute couple’s thing you guys do. Each morning my husband texts me a daily prayer and it is the best part of my day. Not only does it let me know he is thinking of me, but it confirms he loves God and loves me.
Start Today
The biggest thing to remember is it doesn’t have to be perfect what you choose to do. Try not to be consumed with the fine details and just get started! What better time of year to get some Couples Devotionals books than Christmas? Maybe you have a spouse who you wish was more Godly. This is the perfect way to encourage that, or a gift to the Newlyweds to start their marriage off right.
Be the Change you Want
Sometimes before we want others to change, we ourselves have to change. If you want your spouse to be more Godly, maybe that starts with you being more Godly as well. Evaluate your life and take steps to ensure God is incorporated into your marriage and family as much as possible.
I pray these couples devotionals, and bonus tips, strengthen your foundation on God. If you have helpful tips, or traditions, you and your spouse do that keep you centered on Christ I would love to hear them in the comments!
*Always refer back to the Bible when reading any book or resource to ensure it is Biblical. I have not read all of these yet, but they are on my list! If one of these contradicts the Bible, please let me know so it can be removed. 🙂

Thankfully the Mr and I do the majority on this list. Getting him to sit still long enough for a movie takes an act of God lol
That’s awesome to hear! It’s a beautiful thing to see a couple united on God’s foundation. But yes, I understand the sitting part, that must be how my husband feels about me! LOL I have a hard time sitting as well for an entire movie.
This is a great list! My boyfriend and I, could definitely use a couple of these devotionals to not only help grow our relationship together, but also our relationship with Christ. And I love that all the books are really affordable to purchase. I will share this list with my boyfriend, and let you know which we decide to read together.
I’m so glad you like it! I try to share things that have been helpful to me and that everyone can afford! I would love to know which one you guys try. I’m getting one as a Christmas gift for my husband and I. Excited to try one of these! I thoroughly reviewed all of them and what people said, they all seem to be highly thought of so it’s a tough choice. I’m thinking maybe doing a new one each year.
Great list. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for checking it out Pam! I’m glad you found it helpful. God bless!
