5 Ways to Keep God Center at Your Home

Searching for how to keep God center in your life and at home? Start with these 5 tips and ways to center God in your life!

1. Bible Study and Bible Journaling

Bible study and journaling are something the whole family can participate in. There are many wonderful journal bibles now. This also gives you something beautiful to gift to your kids when they graduate. You are giving them a fond memory of the Bible, and how it brought their family together.

Here are some of the top journaling Bibles and the best Bible journal kit to get you started!

2. Grace and Praying Aloud

Say grace and pray aloud with your family! It can be a little nerve-racking praying aloud at first, but don’t be afraid to start! Lead your family in God, love, and grace. Lead by example showing there’s no shame in speaking your faith aloud! Make a habit over every meal, bedtime, before trips, etc. to pray together as a family. It doesn’t have to be long and extravagant prayer, just something that gives intentional time as a family to God. Not sure where to start? Check out this link below:

3. Prayer Journal as a Family

I can’t wait to do this with our son when he’s old enough! I love that we are reading the Living Word. It’s always been fascinating to me to watch how the Word comes alive to each individual. Dedicating just 20 minutes a day to prayer journal together not only will strengthen your family unit, but also your faith. If comfortable, after each of you has journaled what that verse spoke to you, share with one another to see how it may have spoken to them differently. Then, be sure to reference the Bible together and read the full chapter for complete context and see what you each discover!

I encourage you to find a blank page for each of you to write a prayer for where you would like to see God take you in the next year. Then a year later get together and see which prayers were answered, which ones you may still be working towards, or which ones you may be thankful aren’t answered and now you see why! It’s a wonderful faith-building exercise when you can take a step back and see how all along God was guiding your footsteps. And, even when you may have veered off the path he brought you back!

5. Be mindful of What you Give your Time to

Be mindful of the shows and movies you watch as a family. What goes in your eyes and ears comes out of your mouth and heart. Lead by example with your family keeping your entertainment clean. We live in such a beautiful world. Take your family out to experience nature, hiking, kayaking, etc.; take in God’s incredible creation all around you. Make sure as a family you have intentional God and family time.

Instill God in Your Child’s Heart

One of my fondest childhood memories is of my mom reading our children’s Bible to us. We also had these precious memories prayer books. I still have the precious memories book, and it indeed is one of the most precious memories I have of childhood. I don’t know where I would be without Jesus and my Lord-fearing mom who made sure to instill God in our hearts as a child.

Plant and Water the seed of God

Though for years I strayed from the path, I was always drawn back to God because of the seed that was planted, and sown, in my heart. The most important thing you can do is to plant the seed of God to grow in your child’s heart and water it over the years of their life. The beauty of the Gospel is that even children can comprehend the love of God. They are never too young to learn about Jesus. He will be here to guide and protect them long after you are gone. And for all those times you can’t be there, He will be.
