Beating Your Doubt and Staying One with God Devotional

As much as we may not like to admit, we all struggle with doubts. It’s not easy being a Christian in the times we live in. To stay one with God and not one with the world. The bible speaks of how dangerous it can be to live with divided loyalty in James 1.

“Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.”        James 1: 6-8

Doubts can flood our minds, but when that happens we need to have scripture close by to reference and pray with. It’s best to stop these thoughts the second they begin. Doubts in our faith, doubt about ourselves, or doubt about our salvation. Be like Jesus and quote scripture to the enemy when the thoughts come up.

Jesus didn’t try to reason with or argue with the devil, he simply quoted scripture. Once you allow certain thought patterns to continue the harder they are to break. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Don’t let past mistakes or sins cause you to doubt your walk with God. Being human, we will have doubts, but the more we learn to walk with God and put our trust in Him, fully surrendering ourselves, the less these doubts will control our thoughts.

Reflection:

Let me know in the comments. Have you allowed thoughts of doubt to plague your mind lately too? Have you tried fighting these thoughts off with prayer? I challenge you next time you have doubts come on to pause, try to figure out the root these doubts are coming from, and dive into God’s word remembering His Word and promises to us.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,
Thank your blessings on our lives. Thank you for your never-ending grace that covers our sins and past mistakes. Lord, forgive us for our sins and help us to recognize we have been forgiven and to see ourselves how you see us, forgiven and redeemed. Thank you for that you have made us anew when we committed ourselves to you. Lord, during these times where our flesh makes us have these thoughts of doubt, help us to remember and reflect on Your Word. Let us remember You have full authority over all things and just because it’s our human nature to doubt, does not mean we have to entertain these doubts. There is power in the name of Jesus and thank you that we can always call on your name to rescue us in our times of need.
Amen.
